Congratulations to the new selections for the 2007 Class They will be honored at the RB Hall of Fame Annual Awards Luncheon to be held on Saturday, March 15, 2008 Press Release: Each year, the Rancho Bernardo Hall of Fame honors outstanding volunteer leaders who have made significant contributions to RB. This year, the Hall of Fame has selected Don Gragg, Jerry Hetherington, and Jeff Shea. Don Gragg was nominated by both Cal Watson and Cy Chadley for his outstanding leadership in bringing educational opportunities to RB residents. He led the successful effort to re-establish the RB Continuing Education Center (CEC) after it separated from SDSU and was scheduled to close. His leadership resulted in the new CEC, an outstanding community resource offering university-level classes to RB residents. Don also established the CEC=s Community Lecture Series and coordinated the Great Decisions Speaker program, which allows RB residents to hear outstanding speakers on major issues of the day. Don also served as President of the North County Chapter of the San Diego World Affairs Council, which provides RB with weekly talks aimed at understanding US foreign policy. Jerry Hetherington was nominated by Lorraine Swara for his outstanding leadership in providing scouting opportunities for RB youth. He led the RB Rotary=s project that chartered four scout troops B Cub Scout Pack 621, Boy Scout Troop 688, and Girl Scout Troops 8475 and 8487. He is an active leader in the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts, supervising their participation in community activities, securing funding for the troops, teaching camping and survival skills to scouts, and coordinating Rotary participation in scouts throughout two counties. Jerry is a former president of the RB Sunrise Rotary and was also Chairman of Logistics for three years for the RB Spirit of the Fourth celebration, handling the hundreds of details needed to plan, set up, and put on this celebration. Jeff Shea was nominated by Ed Brown and Mary Shea for his outstanding leadership in raising funds for Rancho Bernardo Schools. As President of the Westwood Elementary Foundation, he led fund raising efforts that raised over $70,000 for that school. As President of the RB High School Foundation Board, he led fund raising efforts that raised over $200,000 for RB High. He was also chairman of ticket sales for the RB Kiwanis Club=s Pancake Breakfast and its March Madness Run, which raised over $65,000 for community service projects. Jeff is Co-Director of the Kids Kount program, providing seminars on drug awareness for parents in the Poway Unified School District, and served as President of the Westwood Home Owners= Association. Candidates for the RB Hall of Fame were nominated by the community at large in late 2007. The selection committee was made up of Hall of Fame members, representatives from the local press, and leaders of other community organizations. The new members will be honored at a luncheon to be held Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 11:30 am at the Bernardo Heights Country Club. All community members are welcome.
