Larry McIntire passed away on October 2nd, 2024.

Following is a tribute to Larry written by his daughter:

On October 3rd, 2024, my loving and ever-humorous Dad, Larry A. McIntyre, surrounded by his family, went to be with the Lord. It was a bittersweet day, filled with both tears and laughter as we shared so many memories?laughing, crying, and holding each other close. We said our goodbyes, not as a final farewell, but with the comforting knowledge that we will have the wonderful joy of seeing one another again.

A True Trouper

At 83, despite the health challenges he faced in his later years, he did so with strength and resilience. He was, without a doubt, a TROUPER through it all -- my Daddy, my hero! Family First

Most importantly, family always came first. He adored his grandchildren and was a Gigi Pa to four great-grandchildren. He was so much fun -- truly a kid at heart! There were times I said, Dad, I have to watch you too. LOL! Mom and Dad were unbelievable traveling across the country at every chance to see their grandchildren and rarely missed a birthday or sporting event! Reflecting on His Legacy

As I reflect on his life, I find myself asking: Why do we take time to honor and remember someone after they've passed? Why do we share their stories or come together at a Celebration of Life? Is it for the one who has left us, or for those of us left behind.

Perhaps it?s a bit of both. But one thing I know for sure: if more of us lived like Larry -- with humor, love, and a commitment to giving back -- the world would undoubtedly be a better place. This is more than just a reflection about my Dad; it?s a reminder of the legacy we leave behind. The way we love, care, and nurture others matters. I hope that by reflecting on his life, people might find inspiration to bring more laughter, love, involvement, and compassion into their own lives and relationships --just as Larry did every day of his life.

An Artist and a Businessman

Larry was an artist, and in middle and high school, he was painting beautiful wall murals in people?s homes. I only wish I had pictures of those remarkable murals. Later, he realized he wanted to pursue a career as a commercial artist, and it was at Moore Business Forms that he met my beautiful Mom, Joyce. Eventually, they started their own advertising agency, becoming a dynamic duo in business together! Not all spouses can work side by side, but they were perfect for each other, both in life and in business.

A Loving Husband

I'll always remember my Dad saying to my brother and me, "Isn't your Mom beautiful!" We'd be sitting in the car, and as she walked toward us, he would always speak with such pride and love, saying something special about her. He did that until his very last day, looking at my Mom and saying, "So pretty!"

In his later years, when his health declined, my Mom became his devoted caretaker. And while it wasn't always easy, he never missed an opportunity to let her know just how much he appreciated her. He would always call her his "special angel" and would play the song My Special Angel by Bobby Vinton. Until the day he passed, there were not many days where they missed saying they loved one another and giving one another a kiss goodnight. A New Chapter in California

In 1976 after growing weary of the cold winters in Illinois, my parents made the decision to move to California, where many of our family members were also relocating. My parents launched a second advertising agency in California. But it wasn't just a business that they brought with them -- it was a spirit of generosity, community, and a deep desire to make a difference. Wherever my Mom and Dad chose to plant their roots, the community was going to be beyond fortunate!

Leaving a Lasting Mark!

My Dad wasn't going to just live in a place, he was going to make a difference wherever he lived - giving back and paying it forward in ways that would forever shape a town. That town was Rancho Bernardo, and they were indeed lucky to have him. There, my Dad helped found the Rancho Bernardo Chamber of Commerce, the Rancho Bernardo Historical Society, and much more. He created many logos for the community, including the Spirit of the 4th and The Rancho Bernardo Historical Society. In 2002, Larry was inducted into the Rancho Bernardo Hall of Fame. On May 19, 2017, the city proclaimed Larry McIntyre Day with proclamations from San Diego, the County of San Diego, and the State of California. His contributions laid the foundation for a thriving, connected community?a legacy that will continue to enrich lives for generations to come.

A Cherished Memory

As a child, I remember my Dad always encouraging me and supporting me. One of my most cherished memories is from my last year at San Diego State University, when my Dad asked me to work at their company, Legend Editions. It was there that I had the privilege of learning everything I know about graphic design, marketing, and sales from my Dad. I will forever treasure that time we spent together, as he not only shared his knowledge but also instilled in me the same passion and dedication he brought to his work every day.

My Dad's life was a true testament to love, laughter, and giving back to others. His legacy lives on in the hearts of everyone he touched, and his memory will continue to inspire us to live with purpose and compassion. Leaving a Lasting Mark.
